Instant Breakfast Snack - with Cargills Agrifoods Limited(26th of August 2020)


Most of instant food are unhealthy and there are studies to show that there is no healthy instant food available in the restaurants. This developed food item is instant as well as healthy. According to available information, this developed instant food combination can be used to reduce incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Prof. K.G Somasiri, from the Faculty of Medicine signed as the principle investigator of the research team and Prof. Manik Hettihewa, Director TTO signed from the UBL end to the Non-Disclosure agreement for the inventors.

Signing Licensing agreements
Licensing agreements was signed between the Cargills Ceylon PLC and University of Ruhuna on 26th of August 2020 by transferring the IP worth. For the licensing agreement, Prof Menik Hettihewa, Director Technology Transfer Office signed with another two witness on behalf of the university. Director and secretary of Cargills Ceylon PLC Muhammad Imtiaz Abdul Wahid and Hemali Sagarika Ellawala signed on behalf of Cargills Ceylon PLC. Vice Chancellor, Senior Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena signed as authority of the University of Ruhuna.

This hand rub has been developed to rub hands which is effective in 15 seconds and that can be used in surgical theaters, wards of the hospitals and other healthcare institutions. Herbal Nanoliposome – with FADNA Natures (Pvt) Ltd. (5th of Sepetmber ,2024)


The Herbal Nanoliposome developed by Dr. Anoja Attanayake and her team encapsulates extracts of Senna auriculata into nanoliposomes, significantly enhancing their water solubility, oral absorption, and stability. This innovation, funded by AHEAD DOR 15, has shown remarkable efficacy, including a 45.7% improvement in in vitro α-glucosidase inhibition and a 65.1% reduction in fasting blood glucose in diabetic rats compared to controls. It also demonstrated improved antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties without any observed toxicity.

The nanoliposome technology ensures the gradual release and better preservation of bioactive compounds, outperforming crude extracts in stability and efficacy. With its potential to address challenges in managing diabetes and other conditions, this product was successfully commercialized to FADNA Natures (Pvt) Ltd.
